Conventional Non-Destructive Testing

As a technical leader in the UK, our technicians perform NDT to demonstrate compliance with codes and client requirements both at the time of construction / fabrication and while industrial plant is in-service. Our technicians are highly experienced at performing NDT as a critical part of in-service inspection programs.

We understand that the reliability of NDT depends on repeatability, reproducibility, acceptance level and precision. In ensuring structural integrity, we understand that the question relevant to choosing the right NDT technique and procedure is ‘What is the largest defect missed?’ This is why our teams of technical consultants, inspectors and engineers work together to select the right NDT technique and develop procedures to ensure NDT provides reliable results to inform engineering decision making.

Where working at height is required, we offer NDT services using rope access systems. The benefit of using rope access is the safety and speed with which technicians can access difficult locations, often with minimal impact on other operations and the nearby area. All of our technicians are qualified to PCN level 2 or above.

Conventional Non Destructive Testing (NDT) Methods

NDT is a very reliable and respected way of determining a components structural integrity. Various methods can be used together or individually to map out exactly ‘non metallic inclusions’ in parts or cracks in welds.

It can be very cost effective and carried out with speed, safely and efficiently. Our experienced NDT technicians are hold all the relevant certification in the following methods of NDT:

Dye Penetrant Inspection
Dye penetrant inspection uses dyes to find surface discontinuities in materials. Excess penetrant ‘bleeds out’ from a material to show discontinuities.

Ultrasonic Inspection
Ultrasonic inspection is an efficient and relatively method for determining subsurface indications.  Ultrasound uses high frequency waves to detect discontinuities in materials.

Magnetic Particle Inspection
Magnetic particle inspection is used for locating surface and near surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials. This method is quick and reliable.

Eddy Current Inspection
Eddy current inspection uses electrical currents to induce a magnetic field in conductive materials. A discontinuity causes a distortion in the field. Eddy Current can be done through paint.

Visual Inspection
Visual inspection is a quick method of inspection for finding discontinuities in components. Typical equipment might be inspection mirrors, magnifying glass, wire brush, cleaning solutions. Verification of indications may require one of the methods described above.
